Scope and Contents James Robertson was first employed by the Commissioners, at the instance of Professor Hope of the Edinburgh Chair of Botany, to make a survey of the flora of the Highlands and Islands, but he was later authorized to make notes on the fauna and on the natural features of the country. Scope and Contents The manuscript includes descriptions of Lisbon, Gibraltar and Minorca, the dimensions of the masts and yards of H.M.S. Dragon, religious notes, verses, copies of David Aytoun's letters and memorials requesting promotion, and Aytoun's curriculum vitae, which includes a list of the ships on which he served.
